In order to make a list of the characteristics of Tulumba, we open a book about the History of Argentina and go to the pages describing the colonial times and list every item explained in the book. In fact, performing this activity is not enough. Tulumba is a beautiful village located among small mountain ranges dividing the landscape from the northern plain, on one of the sides of the provincial route 16 linking DeÃ¡n Funes and San JosÃ© de la Dormida. Going round La Dormida?s streets involves getting to know the magic paths of the history, admiring the landscapes with colonial houses built on cobbled paving. It also involves going deep into the world of religious domain, political struggles and mysterious legends. Within its spots, Reynafe Family?s house, which can be visited despite being privately owned, is entirely preserved. Over there, its current proprietors will start to tell visitors the story of the house as if somebody told the story of a magnificent treasure needed to be admired and known by everyone. This processions to honour the Virgin covered the streets with particular mysticism, in the religious rumour of every chime echoing daily throughout the town and echoing announcing the angelus. It is us who get lost in a landscape making us go back to centuries ago. Tulumba awaits us, with the murmur of its stream, its settlers? friendship, its picturesque spots and the fantastic chiaroscuro of a past accompanying us in every step we make.

Among its wide streets and picturesque constructions, the restaurants and bars invite to sit around their tables while enjoying the fresh air and the warmth of the people. So from any of its many corners, it is possible to witness the peace once denied to this gorgeous Villa De Soto, which today quietly rest below vast shadow of the ancient trees. The particular landscape of Villa MarÃa del RÃo Seco, located in the northern end of route 9, make it a mysterious and historical spot. In 1864 this site, erected by the road coming down from the high mountains, was founded with the name of Villa TrÃ¡nsito by the presbyter Francisco Aguirre. More than fifty years later, the then governor of the province, RamÃ³n CÃ¡rcano, named this place Villa Cura Brochero. A person loved by the entire community, Brochero devoted his life to the care of the needy. This hilly villa calling after Brochero keeps among its streets the steps of this renowned Priest. Nuestra SeÃ±ora del TrÃ¡nsito Church and Brocheriano Museum are just some of the work proving the important participation of JosÃ© Gabriel del Rosario Brochero, whose was called “Cura Gaucho” because of his closeness with the rural activities and settlers.
