In fact, performing this activity is not enough. Tulumba is a beautiful village located among small mountain ranges dividing the landscape from the northern plain, on one of the sides of the provincial route 16 linking Deán Funes and San José de la Dormida. Going round La Dormida?s streets involves getting to know the magic paths of the history, admiring the landscapes with colonial houses built on cobbled paving. It also involves going deep into the world of religious domain, political struggles and mysterious legends. Within its spots, Reynafe Family?s house, which can be visited despite being privately owned, is entirely preserved. Over there, its current proprietors will start to tell visitors the story of the house as if somebody told the story of a magnificent treasure needed to be admired and known by everyone. In this way the anecdotes about the Independence times, the arduous battle between Federales and Unitarios (former argentine political parties), the tactic plan of the Reynafe Family to follow the instructions of Rosas (an argentine politician) and annihilate the Tigre de los Llanos, Facundo Quiroga, in the legendary ambush of Barranca Yaco will start to be retold little by little Strolling around its streets making the Camino Real al alto Perú opposite to the cobbled paving being restored, Nuestra Señora del Rosario church rises. Considering the size of this small village, this church looks really enormous. This temple was built in 1882 and has the beautiful tabernacle that once belonged to the Cathedral of the City of Córdoba. Very nice sample of a mixing style, of the domination and evangelization of which native peoples participated. The tabernacle has a refined and European baroque style that was paradoxically carved in cedarwood by our aborigines. It would be a mistake to believe that history will be pictured in front of our eyes in a fairly straightforward way so that we can understand it. In Tulumba, facts do not work in that way. History remains alive in every inhabitant, in the anecdotes of the fearful Santos Pérez who, proud of having been Reynafe`s servants, used to subjugate the entire village during annual processions. This processions to honour the Virgin covered the streets with particular mysticism, in the religious rumour of every chime echoing daily throughout the town and echoing announcing the angelus. It is us who get lost in a landscape making us go back to centuries ago. Tulumba awaits us, with the murmur of its stream, its settlers? friendship, its picturesque spots and the fantastic chiaroscuro of a past accompanying us in every step we make. And Villa de Soto is one of them. Erected in an strategic place, which was the obligatory path to access to the northern and western provinces during the time of the foundation of the country; the scenario of constant struggles between Unitarios y Federales, (the two political parties during the 19th century), and victim of the wild gauchos (native cowboys) responsible for the riots and also shelter for the better-known political figures of that time. Through the time, the streets of the Villa De Soto have kept the memories and traces of important names and foundation battles. Today, to the pace of the murmuring of its crystalline irrigation channels and streams, this city keeps the peace and quietness denied in the past. Its squares and streets full of hundred-year-old trees and its vegetable gardens which exude a fresh smell that fill the environment contribute to the peace and beauty of this place. Getting to know this beautiful Villa is strolling around its old paths, being delighted with the architecture of its impressive church, admiring every single corner appearing in front of us untouchable by time, as if time had never passed. Around the square, nature has played an important role when La Toma was constructed. This is an outstanding landscape of hills and mounts with Soto River skirting around them, which rush over to form waterfalls which bathe the sandy beaches of the surroundings. This is the ideal place for a restful break. Among its wide streets and picturesque constructions, the restaurants and bars invite to sit around their tables while enjoying the fresh air and the warmth of the people. So from any of its many corners, it is possible to witness the peace once denied to this gorgeous Villa De Soto, which today quietly rest below vast shadow of the ancient trees. This peculiar village enjoys the privilege of being the birthplace of the poet Leopoldo Lugones turning that spot into a distinguished one. The foothills of Cerro Romero, displaying an spectacular view, is witnessed by a haunting monument in honour of leader Francisco ´Pancho´ RamÃÂrez born in the province of Entre RÃÂos. At this point, the first question is raised: Why was that monument erected right in the heart of the northern part of the province of Córdoba?. To answer this question, it is necessary to thoroughly visit the area; to listen to its settlers telling legends and popular stories. That is how they start talking about their poet Leopoldo Lugones born in 1874. Today, the house where he was born is a museum holding his memories and literary works. A visit to the village?s parish church to the see the image of Virgin del Rosario, a walk along its narrow roads winding through the heart of the village, and a visit to Manuel Ulla museum -holding a hundred of archaeological pieces to have insight into its first settlers? culture are a must. To learn about Santa MarÃÂa del RÃÂo Seco, it is necessary to talk to its people who know every single story and corner of this amazing villa. And even after having visited each spot, there will always be an anecdote or story untold. That is the feeling we have once we leave the town, that a story or event has been unsaid. But that should not worry us since the urge to know the untold story will bring us back to Villa MarÃÂa del RÃÂo Seco.
